In 1963 Oregon, anti-authoritarian recidivist criminal Randle McMurphy is moved to a mental institution after serving a short sentence. In the new facility he expects to escape hard labor and serve out his sentence in relative comfort, but he’s thwarted by the rigid nurse that runs the ward, and a battle of wills follows that leads to rebellion and tragedy.
