1. The ‘bloodlust sense’ is basically a staple of action/martial arts anime, and you’ve probably seen it several times before. I KNOW you’ve at least seen it in HunterxHunter, when Gon was hiding from Hisoka during the Hunter exam, and Hisoka lets out an “aura of killing intent”. In the philosophy behind martial arts, it’s believed that people can reach a state where they can sense a person’s intent, which is what happened here.

1. Sensing people and letting out aura with intentions is part of hxh’s nen system. In most other anime it just works for plot convenience with no actual rules or consistency. One more reason to appreciate hxh’s masterpiece of a power system.
