1. Here is how it is, Both Magic and Mana exists. We have already confirmed that every living thing has mana. Gwen uses her Mana to do spells as well as all the extra alien abilities she has. We never get a full explanation for Gwen powers so its not a retcon. Charmcaster says, “Im just lucky you have a a magical aura.”, that could mean anything. Its the same thing as Ben finding out the omnitrix was meant for Max and was not a random occurrence. We though it was random because thats all we knew. That’s not a retcon its just an explanation.

3. It’s a cartoon for children. I don’t think the retcon discussion needs to be so overthought.

4. Holy macaroni – I left my office long into the retcon discussion, went to my colleague’s office and chatted with her, came back and you were still going on about retconning. Oh my god.

7. total retcon: ben’s father in the og series knew nothing about aliens or plumbers but now his brother knows their mother is an alien but not him? “magic doesnt exist” yet we saw a god (magical) and a spell book in the og series. retconned

      That episode is non canon, it has the comic book opening just like Gwen 10.

      Magic does exist and continues to exist in Ben 10. The retcon is that Gwen’s natural ability for magic comes from her alien heritage, because mana is closely related to and amplifies magic. Gwen resumes using her spell book in season 3, and the relationship between magic and mana is further explored when her and Charmcaster enter Ledgerdomain in UA.

      1. That is exactly correct. There is no retcon, its just an explanation we never had. Later on, we find out Azmuth had another assistant help him with the omnitrix, that is not a retcon. its just adding to the canon, and is reasonable to believe that there is more than one assistant. Just like its reasonable to believe Gwen uses mana to perform magic. Nothing about her ability has changed. Just the way she is able to USE her ability is actually explained practically. We would still be wondering where Gwen got the ability to use magic.

I am pretty sure it is *technically* a retcon not that I think it is a bad one but in the Orignal series it seemed like the intent was magic based on everything we saw and my guess of the writer’s intent and here they switch it to magic, and in the CGI movie destroy all aliens they do hint at this retcon but that is retroactively hinting at it since it came out like 4 years after Alien Force first aired
