Intergroup romance in TTRPGs is definitely just dependent on group comfort levels. I’ve been in a campaign where my friend’s character and my character eventually got married and it was completely fine. Keep in mind, our group has been friends for about a decade+, but that friend in particular has also been in a relationship with the DM, who is one of my best friends, for nearly the entire time we’ve known each other. We leaned into the relationship in our RP and even played out a date in one session, and none of us at the table felt any weirdness from it because we all trust each other and are familiar with our comfort levels. I can imagine that there are undoubtedly countless horror stories of players trying to introduce romance into a campaign where no one is interested or comfortable with it, but as long as everyone trusts and respects each other, I really like it as a story element in the improv roleplay of TTRPGs.
