that was a sombering episode. may have been too subtle for kids to pick up on. i like how they did it though. they had this old soldier who talks like he’s in the 50s/60s aka stuck in the past and how starfire relates to the black man but they have cyborg say “yes, im half robot” not going too heavy and saying its because of the color of his skin. then the “dont touch me” when he needs saving and “you must be one of the good ones” baby! too real! not to get too deep but i worked in the restaurant industry and had folks switch tables constantly when their waiter walked up and he was black……even to the point where they would lie and say they know becky and want to have their friend wait on them and always told us afterwards “i dont know them people”. aaaaaaaaah america
crazy
the cryptids or whatever look like both white martians from the justice league cartoon and some aliens from ben 10. i forget their name but the community should know
I was reminded of Ben 10, too.
the DNAliens? The Highbreeds specifically I think.
I always thought it was right there with Cyborg since he’s black. Then I have to remember, it’s a children’s cartoon and children are going to get the robot thing more.
i would have gotten this more as a black kid myself if he said black. the fact that he said robot went over my head and didnt sit right with me. part of the reason i mostly forgot this episode. it wasnt until valyor started acting funny that it all came running back to me. it didnt really hit me personally as i grew up in an all black neighborhood but via black media and books i was exposed to what racism was. otherwise i would have never gotten this episode was an allegory for anything as a kid
Seeing this episode as a kid, I didn’t really think much. I just enjoyed it, but now at 21, it’s the deepest episode so far to me.
I cannot believe they cut before “I’m part robot.”
Damn this definitely went over my head as a kid not knowing it was about racism.
Which is odd because it’s direct and in your face. I saw this as a kid/younger but couldn’t remember if Cyborg said he was black or a robot.
Oh man this one!

It’s so simplistic but so impactful.
