I think she’s a guardian and their heart is in the right place, but they don’t understand the consequences of their choices. Providing the diamond is a perfect example. They’re trying to compensate for the mistake, but not understanding that it would be incredibly difficult to exchange the diamond for money.
I think, generally, we can trust her, but not unconditionally. She is, after all, an ancient alien, and we saw that she doesn’t fully understand humans. She seems to make an effort to understand them, but there will always be some disconnect.
I think she’s a Guardian and maybe she’s hiding something. I think maybe it would be cool if there actually WASN’T a Manhunter in Rushville, and maybe its the “dead” Guardian, that was killed by Sinestro, although the Halogram John sees in the pilot might contradict that in a way. But it was made very clear that we should think he’s “dead” and it was also made very known that Guardians can shift into a human form, and also if he’s the benefactor, then we did see the Guardian give compensation to John’s family, who’s saying that couldn’t have been tech? (given to the Macons)
I just thought it was interesting.
I do believe she’s a Guardian, but not to be trusted. Even early in the Green Lantern comics, when things were simpler morally speaking, they weren’t the best people. Nowadays it feels like every other major GL event involves a rogue Guardian or some secret they, as a collective, kept to preserve their power or their version of galactic peace. As such, it’s hard for me to trust their intentions, especially when they are actively going behind Hal’s back.
PS. In regards to Hal and his family life, in episode one during the televised interview they discussed his father’s death. Hal even went on to say that losing a parent is a child’s worst fear and that after experiencing it there was nothing left he was afraid of.
Crazy fan theory, John is being raised to be a Yellow Lantern without knowing it. The “Guardian” we see isn’t actually a Guardian, it’s a shapeshifter who works with Sinestro who is secretly trying to groom John into being a Yellow Lantern, not a Green one. Ring interviews are not standard practice, and Sinestro would know about Hal’s lacking professionalism, meaning Hal really has no way of knowing if John met with a legitimate Guardian or not. Sinestro would see the opportunity to defile a future Green Lantern behind the Councils back and take it.
As to how John is being groomed for a perfect Yellow Lantern position. He wasn’t actually raised to not feel fear, he was raised to hide his fear. From the car scene we hear John’s older brother say “You can’t fear them” referring to the parents, which I think is a hint towards John not doing what he does because he’s fearless, rather he does it in fear of disappointing his parents. He’s obsessed with birds cuz he was always fearful the birds would tell the Guardians he wasn’t fearless. Staying on that mission for 9 months, agreeing to being discharged, walking home alone, shooting apples of his Mom’s head, all of these things weren’t done fearlessly, they were done cuz John fears failure. This whole time, his parents were accidentally not just raising a boy with immense willpower, but also a boy with a fear he’s been running from his entire life. I think John is a valid Green Lantern target, but I think with the hint of Sinestro being interested in John. He’s also a valid Yellow Lantern target.
I think she’s a guardian but I’m not sure she can be trusted. I only say this because despite his flaws I do trust Hal, which she seems not to.
I feel the same. He gives off the vibe of someone who shouldn’t be trusted but I just do
Course we can trust her she came to apologize & gave the mom a big diamond.
The guardians are immensely old and know many secrets; every other species is junior to them, so they are economical with their information. It doesn’t make them untrustworthy; just be wary of them.
I think she is a Guardian and can be trusted, I think. The way she was talking seemed empathetic and seemed to understand what Johns mother was saying, I am however cautious about their own agenda, as i remember the Guardians can sometimes be to Harsh in their punishment/ Judgment.
Im also starting to think that maybe the entire Town is Manhunters, Specifically White Martians. And that maybe, possibly. The Sheriff could be our Martian Manhunter, we already know that she knows more than she is letting on, Also the name does originate from and old saying of Detective of which John Jones use to be in the comics, And the Sheriff has been taking on more of a Detective role in these cases.
I think she’s a Guardian and that she can be trusted. The issue is I believe she can only be trusted to advance her own agenda and not necessarily whatever might be the correct play. My guess is that there will be very little nuance in the Guard-Linney-an’s positions.
