1. There’s some “Early Installment Weirdness” in this episode. Pidgeotto is seen eating a regular worm. The original series of the anime, specifically Kanto, showed & mentioned real world animals existing alongside Pokemon. By the later seasons however this was changed so that all animals are Pokemon. Another instance is that when Caterpie evolves into Metapod, it shoots String Shot onto itself and sheds its skin in the process. Later episodes show Caterpie evolving the same way as any other Pokemon.

   Also some trivia: This is the first time a main character catches a Pokémon that would later evolve in the same episode. This scenario would not be repeated until more than 500 episodes later. This is also the first episode in which a main character catches more than one Pokémon of a different species. This wouldn’t occur again for another 1,088 episodes.
