Mark Harelik deserve an Emmy for this episode!!!
Thinking about how the “Don’t hurt him, he’s my son” echos Roger’s request back in episode 1
He didn’t say don’t hurt him though

Hey Full Length watchers. How many tissues were use in this reaction?
I lost count, my screen was rlly blurry for some reason…
Delivering such emotional dialog while wearing such a ridiculous wig, masterful job from Mark Harelik
So a Cool thing that I saw on the BTS of how they made Chopper work, The actual voice actor is in the booth watching whatever they have prepped for her while they have special cameras to capture all her specific facial reactions and responses. That allows them to transfer over all the emotion she can show onto Choppers face, for all the scenes where they are filming Chopper they have a live actor who is pretty much always on her knees but has a special suit rig made to emphasize Chopper’s dimensions IRL. Essentially there are two different women playing the role to complete the character we see on screen.
Yep. Another detail I loved is how the on-set actress for Chopper had a GoPro on. They used the footage as reflections in CGI Chopper’s eyes.
Is this the reaction with least words spoken ?
Crying with this episode it hits so hard! My heart hurts from watching this 4 times now.
“I’m a monster too. Isn’t it great?” Such a small line but so impactful for Chopper’s story.
This is one of my favorite parts about One piece. For a show that is so over the top and strange, they have so many emotional moments that just breaks you. Choppers story still makes me cry my eyes out and he’s just one out of dozens of other characters with really painful and heavy backstories. Oda really is amazing at creating so many impactful stories and little easter eggs that don’t pay off until dozen or hundreds of chapters later. You kind of understand Arlong hate for humans even more when you hear that not only was fish men slaves and seen as lesser creatures but then you hear about their queen being assassinated during the Reverie and it kinda make sense.
This was for me the best overall episode of the season. They adapted Chopper’s backstory so well.
Please tell me they look up the name of Hiriluk’s actor at some point
Mark Harelik
