This episode is definitely one of my faves, if not my actual fave episode for Season 2!
Hey guys👋🏻, another awesome episode. You notice something missing? Where’s the duck?
The funny thing is, they have to actively tell Mackenyu to slow down with his swordplay. You should see him in Rurouni Kenshin Live Action. Dude is a MONSTER with the sword.
Mackenyu said it was exactly 100 because he knew the fans would count and they shot it in 6 hours. He also said he brought in some of the stunt people that have been working with his family for years so he broughy in some top tier stunt teams for this but wow. Insane
Mackenyu said he learned the choreography for the fight in 6 hours which is wild.
Vivi’s actress is just incredible and has great chemistry with the crew, especially Emily Rudd’s Nami.
Zoro was definitely the highlight for me. They put in so much effort for that fight sequence. IIRC the actor for Zoro, Mackenyu brought in help from people he works with back in JP. Dude’s been practicing martial arts and swinging swords since he was young. He’s in his element here.
Also… I feel like you guys would enjoy the live action movies of Rurouni Kenshin. Not sure if Rick is aware of it. But it’s one of the better live action adaptations out there. And the action sequences are crazy. It’s a mix of great stunt/fight choreography and some anime flare. And Mackenyu stars in one of the movies. There are 5 movies btw. So you know the movies were really selling well.
I think in season 1, Rick said Rouroni Kenshin is still the best live action anime adaption in his opinion
As Enishi, I think. I Vivdly remember that fight. Both actors were going so fing fast with their swordplay. Crazy how his Zoro scene is still so good, but the swordplay not even close to as fast as his Rurouni Kenshin fight.
For me episode 2 and 3 was the highlight of season 2. There are good moments and actors in the later episodes too but for me these episodes were absolute peak.
Crazy Fun Fact, Mackenyu(zoro)’s Father sonny chiba was in the movie kill bill volume which also had the most popular 1 vs many crazy 88 fighting sequence like this, and his sister Juri manase was actually among the members of the crazy 88. So i’m sure this scene was extra extra special for him.
Aaron and Calvin must see this episode. I don’t think there is any spoiler in this one.
I love Eric and Rick talking about Zoro and Luffy’s ambition and the scope of their dreams because like, yeah, the series is also really invested in that.
Zoro’s fight sequences were some of the best fight choreography and long shots I have ever seen
It’s actually crazy there’s people on the internet saying this is on the same level as Dragon Ball Evolution😂
Funny you guys mention because I just saw a yt clip of makenyu at the premiere mentioning that he knew the fans would count and yes, it actually is 💯
I really agree with how impressively Mr. 9 was cast. Obviously Mackenyu as Zoro was incredible, but you are the only reactors I’ve seen thus far to give Mr. 9 his flowers.
Yes! I was SO impressed by him, like that was honestly some of the most perfect casting I’ve ever seen & this show does greatcwith casting but he was seriously next level, on par with robert downey jr as ironman tbh
Part of what makes those fight scenes amazing is that Mackenyu is a legitimate swordsman in real life, so they can just show him doing the sword work. They don’t have to hide anything, so we get these awesome long and wide shots of Zoro going to town on people. Same goes for the rest of the straw hats in general, but especially Taz/Sanji. The man actually became a black belt between seasons and is a highly skilled chef – dude’s a beast
Can confirm 40-100 was an accurate count. There’s a tricky bit of he hits a person and they come back before being counted you have to keep track of but at least from when they invite you to keep count to the end it’s right.
We need to see Mackenyu in Star Wars at some point with how well he does with choreo. This is absolutely one of my favorite sword fights in all of cinema. One piece live action gave me one of my favorite fight scenes ever…i’m actually baffled by that statement. it’s so fucking good.
I know the guys are keeping the reactions separate, but Aaron and Calvin need to see this fight
I can’t imagine how Eric would react to the animation in episodes post 900s… guess I gotta wait YEARS, it is what it is though.
This is the first arc that has been better than its anime equivalent for me. I mean hell, I would’ve been happy enough with them simply getting rid of that stupid Luffy VS Zoro fight, but on top of that we got this amazing fight scene with Zoro against the Baroque Works agents. All the actors were great, especially the one playing Mr 9. He chewed the scenery in all the best ways… Truly an incredible episode. Bonus points for me now having that end credit song stuck in my head.
Sad we lost the unluckies drawing nami and usopp. Other than that this was amazing
I actually agree that whisky peak was done better in the live action at least in terms of action. However, I still like the more humorous and stupid moments of this whisky peak in the manga/anime

i like the action and how they removed the luffy vs zoro thing, but i prefer the vibe of the anime/manga with how its an eerie atmospheric night scene and it starts like a thriller where everyone is out, then they fight on the roofs in front of the bright moon. its really beautiful.
