I don’t think Al has return by death since that is a unique ability Satella gave to Subaru because she loves him, so it wouldn’t really make much sense for her to give it to someone else as well. Besides, he’s literally missing an arm and has a deformed face or something, so I feel like he would’ve killed himself and returned by death in order to fix himself, but since he didn’t, he probably doesn’t have it. Besides, I hope nobody other than Subaru has it since it should be unique.
What Al said there about “dying a hundred deaths” could just be a saying that people say like what Eric said. Him talking about dying the first time could be about how he got sent to this world. He could’ve died and then got transported to this one.

IF Al did have return by death what he says would make no sense. Subaru has never had a checkpoint in a situation that close. But Al straight up said he might have died under that rubble. Return by death would NEVER put his checkpoint directly under the rubble like that. If he did return he would have done that whole fight WAY better and wouldnt have been shocked at all. Meaning If he DID die then the checkpoint would have had to be like less than a minute before the rubble fell because that whole fight was a shock to al and theres no need to fake reactions to capella.
