All of their complaints about Naruto are the same complaints I had about the anime. I don’t think “but they were ordered to protect Shikamaru” is a very good excuse when allowing this guy to reattach his friend’s head and reset all of the progress their team has made is probably PRETTY BAD for Shikamaru’s chances of survival. In reality, the process of him reviving his friend was supposed to be quick, and they wouldn’t have time to intervene anyway. But this is in anime time, where every little inch taken needs thirty seconds worth of reaction shots and internal monologue. It makes the entire sequence really awkward and frustrating.
Someone being critical of a scene in a TV series doesn’t mean they hate the show.
Why are people hating on Calvin he is my second favorite (after Eric ofc), I mean yea he maybe doesn’t like the show that much but he is very rational about it.
I love Naruto and Naruto Shippuden but while it was coming out week by week i felt some of the frustrations in its pacing and bad writing. I mean theres so many flaws but overall the show has more ups than downs. I have a friend who is like calvin but we looked forward watching Naruto every week. I would love to see calvins reaction to future naruto episodes, would love to hear everyones opinons on certain episodes. Naruto Shippuden still has so many crazy moments coming up and I’m exciting to see everyones reaction. Keep it up blind wave you guys are awesome!
Man, reading all these comments defending the two ninja and complaining about Calvin, like the Naruto is a flawless love child. Look, I love Naruto(not the anime), but the Storm series(amazing) and the manga(even more), maybe more so when the new remake for Naruto shows up with probably better pacing and correct adaptation. All of Calvin and Aaron complaint is legitimate. Why are those two standing around and doing nothing? If they were gun ho on defending Shikamaru all the way through, why start attacking after? They could’ve just kept defending, because the anime made them look like useless ass characters. In the manga it shows them gauging the situation and going in, but Kakuzu was so fast that they barely notice when he reattach Hidan head. (Naruto Shippuden Chapter 326 if you’re interested in reading) The anime just has so much useless paddening that it’s disgusting, especially for newcomer to anime like Calvin and Aaron. Yes, they watched anime, but most of the anime isn’t like in the like top 3 long running era like Bleach, One Piece, and Naruto of back then. Rick and Eric are use to it, because they seen the old ass Dragon Ball Z of Goku screaming his ass off for so long. Why I dropped the Naruto anime, cuz it’s so bad. Also looking forward to it every week was nice.
I came back near the end though. Felt like an entirely different anime tbh.
Yea some things are better explained and shown in the manga but most of the flaws of the show are cuz it is an anime with a budget and a time limit of the episodes.

For everybody that is complaining about how Calvin acts during the Naruto reactions you obviously have too much time on your hands. To go so far as to say that he shouldn’t be in the reactions any more is highly ridiculous. If Calvin truly didn’t enjoy watching Naruto then he would’ve left the reactions a long time ago. Find something better to do with your life instead of whining and complaining
I straight up ignore Calvin in these reactions. He rarely seems to enjoy the show. I literally don’t care if he’s in the reaction or not. He’s so quiet, it’s easy to forget he’s there
As many people have pointed out they were ordered by there commanding officer to not get into the fight unless they try to engage Shikamaru directly, they are soldiers they are trained to follow orders. Also its the correct move, They can’t even touch these guys. Its like thinking a irl foot soldier should charge a Tank with a bayonet against orders. They would literally die doing nothing messing up the only possible way to maybe win, all they can do is buy time for Shikamaru to come up with something maybe which they did.
Also if Calvin doesn’t like the show he can not watch it, its no hate on Calvin at all but if this is not his kinda show then its fine he can not be in the reactions. Like Asuma was dying and he was making dick jokes basically not watching the show at all, Like how is the vibe of dread and tension the show is trying to set up have any chance of succeeding with that going on. Again I am not saying this cause I hate Calvin just that in these particular reactions he is actively making them worse for me and has been for a while. Just my opinion of course.
“To waste asuma” is funny because thats exactly what asumas plan was, he knew its almost impossible to beat the Akatsuki members without prior knowledge of their abilities , so he was going to be the pawn so shikamaru could see their abilities and come up with a plan to win
its funny because you guys aren’t the only people who missed asuma telling them to protect shikamaru, their job was to protect him vs kakazu
I think yall really get mad way to fast and don’t think about whats happening those two guys were directly ordered to protect shikamaru who is the weakest fighter if they attacked before they had no choice then shikamaru would be left open to a direct attack smh

Izumo and Kotetsu’s jobs were to protect Shikamaru, who as you said had lower fighting ability than them. They only entered the battle when Kakuzu started actively targetting them.

I agree. I commended Rick when he dropped out of the always sunny reactions, even though its one of my favourite shows of all time. Calvin should do the same with Naruto because he clearly doesn’t enjoy it.

The writing is not the issue. Naurto has good to great writing throughout most the manga, but the pacing of 2000s’s anime is terrible.

I am enjoying the reaction, as I have been since they started watching Naruto in the first place. That is why I commented normal criticism with 0 hate toward Calvin or any of the crew. He just seems geniunely annoyed during all these episodes. If you want an echo-chamber with only people saying “cool” then I don’t know what to tell you.
Agreed Master zen. Their reactions to what is great in this show makes up for any dislike they show for the show so far. And not to beat a dead horse this issue would be solved if they increase how much they watch the show. Not even speaking about uploading more youtube videos if they adopted a normies way of bluk reacting sessions instead actually watching one episode in time period.
I’m sorry but it feels like every time Calvin doesn’t fall head over heels in love with the show, everyone just assumes he hates it. He’s an analytical, critical guy. He’s going to call out the logical fallacies of two able-bodied ninja who stand around doing nothing. That would and should annoy anyone witnessing it.
Honestly now a few hours later, I realize I might have somewhat overreacted. It was just difficult seeing the discussion take such an angry turn on an episode with moments that were supposed to be rather sad. I do still disagree on Izumo and Kotetsu’s roles, but I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I hope that the crew will like the next episodes/arcs.
I mean, it’s fine to call out logical fallacies when there isn’t an explanation given in the show. The problem is, there *was* an explanation given. The 2 ninja were told to protect Shikamaru and not to engage unless he was attacked directly. Which is why they didn’t jump into action until he was in danger.
